The brief

Baildon Town Council wanted to promote the Yorkshire village of Baildon as a destination to visit. Baildon sits in a beautiful moorland location and has many things to do and see, as well as being close to the tourist hotspots of Ilkley and Saltaire. The town council felt that there was no central resource for those thinking of visiting the town, and even many of those who live in or close to Baildon were not necessarily aware of what it has to offer.
The main aim of the website is to encourage people from outside the are to visit, but it was also hoped it would be a useful resource for those who live in Baildon, Saltaire, Shipley, Guiseley, Ilkley and around.

The solution

We began by designing a logo which reflects the moorland location and features the trig point the top of Baildon Moor. We then designed and built a website which features places to eat, drink and stay in Baildon, as well as tourist destinations. Each business in those categories has a listing; in the next phase of the project, we hope to add local shops. The website went live and we encouraged local business to get involved by updating their listings. We were lucky to be able to use the work of local photographer Ros Crosland in the website.
We worked on SEO to enhance the website's Google ranking, and part of our strategy was to add a blog. This is updated regularly with posts on walks in Baildon, the history of the village, upcoming events and other topics. The content of the blog posts was initially written by the team at Assembly Marketing, but going forward, local guest writers will contribute their own content for the blog. The next phase of the project will include window stickers for local businesses to show they are part of the scheme.
